Except for "Bioscope" a Malayalam film produced by the National Film Development Corporation winning a special jury award, the 56th edition of the National Film Awards announced Saturday did not have any Malayalam film in the main category. This was much in contrast to last year when Malayalam films bagged the best director, editor, music director and best make up awards.
"Thirakatha" was selected as the best regional film in Malayalam.
So is the quality of Malayalam films going down??
Yes. Except for a few experimental movies by Renjith or Jayaraj and the Adoor movies [the once in blue moon extravaganza], we really don't have anything to boast of.
